Elliniko-Argyroupoli and Esil District Sign Memorandum to Strengthen Ties
From October 8 to 11, 2024, a Greek delegation led by Mayor Ioannis Konstantatos of Elliniko-Argyroupoli visited Astana. During this visit, a significant memorandum was signed between the Esil district (Akim Darmeniyar Kydyrbek-Uly) and the municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli to strengthen ties in economy, education, and tourism.
The delegation explored Nazarbayev University, the Holy Assumption Cathedral, the central mosque of Astana, and Nur Alem. They also had the honor of planting five trees in the Botanical Garden!
This visit was made possible with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Greece, the Akimat of Astana, and the Hellenic-Kazakh Business Council. Here’s to building lasting connections!
Piraeus and Aktau Explore New Cooperation Opportunities During Delegation Visit
From September 22 to 26, 2024, a delegation from the city of Piraeus, led by Deputy Mayor Dimitrios Arapis, visited the city of Aktau to discuss prospects for establishing cooperation between the two cities.
In Aktau, the Greek delegation held meetings with Nurdaulet Kilybai, Akim of the Mangystau Region, and Abilkair Baipakov, Akim of the city of Aktau. They also visited the "KazAzot" plant and the port of Aktau.
The representatives of Piraeus also visited the city of Astana, where they explored the capital's landmarks.
The visit was organized by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Greece and the Hellenic-Kazakh Business Council, headed by Konstantinos Petridis.
The interaction between Kazakhstan and Greece continues to strengthen, opening up new opportunities for cooperation.
Ancient Olympia and Taraz Form Sister City Partnership
On November 4, 2023, Ancient Olympia officially became sister cities with the historic city of Taraz in Kazakhstan. The ceremony took place at noon in front of the ancient Temple of Hera.
According to the sister city agreement, both cities aim to exchange experiences to promote the Olympic ideals of friendship, peace, and solidarity among peoples. The partnership seeks to establish the Olympic Truce, enhance cultural, tourism, and sports relations, and foster cooperation in tourism, industry, education, science, public services, and infrastructure.
Taraz, the sixth-largest city in Kazakhstan, is one of the oldest cities in the country and celebrated its 2,000th anniversary in 2001.
Bilateral cooperation between the cities of TARAZ and ANCIENT OLYMPIA
Akim of the Zhambyl region Nurzhan Nurzhigitov met with the mayor of Ancient Olympia, Georgios Georgiopoulos. This important events was also attended by the two presidents of the Hellenic-Kazakh Business Council, Zhaksybek Kulekeyev and Thomas Lamnidis and Bakytzhan Suindikov, the Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Greece
The parties discussed the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investments, cultural and humanitarian fields, as well as education and sports.
The Greek delegation remains grateful for the warm hosting and the opportunity to visit the historical and cultural complexes in the city of Taraz.
30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Greece and Kazakhstan: Monument Unveiled in Acharnes
On October 6, 2022, a monument dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Greece and Kazakhstan was officially unveiled in Acharnes. The monument symbolizes the friendship between the two nations and was made possible through the financial support of DKG DEVELOPMENT AE.
The apple representing the land of Kazakhstan and the olive symbolizing Greek soil highlight the historical connection between the two cultures. This land has provided refuge for many Greeks who found themselves far from home, including their children and grandchildren. The monument serves as a reminder of the long-standing cooperation and collaborative spirit of first, second, and third-generation Greeks who lived in Kazakhstan.

Establishment

The Hellenic-Kazakh Business Council officially announced its establishment as a tool for developing economic and commercial cooperation between the business communities of Greece and Kazakhstan.
The launch event took place on June 21, 2022, at the Civitel Olympic Hotel, hosted by entrepreneur Mr. George Theodorakis, with dignitaries and numerous business representatives from both nations in attendance. The council aims to build strong business and cultural relationships between the two countries.
Founders of the Hellenic-Kazakh Business Council include Zhaxybek Kulekeyev, Thomas Lamnidis, Spiros Zannias, Konstantinos Petridis, Paris Kokorotsikos, Vasilia Pompieri, and George Theodorakis, under the auspices of the Kazakhstan Embassy and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event was presented by Mr. Alexis Kostalas, who highlighted the importance of cultural cooperation alongside economic ties.
Kazakhstan's ambassador to Greece, Mr. Baunadarbek-Kozatagev Yerlan, emphasized the need for collaboration and the council's significant role, impressing attendees with his fluent Greek.
The council's goal is to strengthen business partnerships and communication between Greek and Kazakh governmental bodies, organizations, and private enterprises.
